The Phoner

Had my first interview today… we call them “phoners” in the biz. Admittedly, I was a little nervous so I grabbed a shot from the freezer and descended into my basement studio.  I lit up a smoke and gave Miss Fahey from the Kent Stater a call.

The interview was regarding the Centennial Alumni Exhibition II: Nexts, held at the Kent Stat School of Art. I had one painting hanging, my favorite one-as a matter of fact. My interviewer also declared that Lifter was her favorite out of the 45 hanging, which, I admit was quite flattering.

The interview went well, I think. I tried to keep my answers quick and interesting, without rambling. She asked about my inspiration, background and message. I briefly explained some of my processes, and why I paint the things that I paint. Funny, I just don’t know the answer some of these questions. I can’t say why I paint- it just seems like painting is what I’ve been put here to do, and it would be a shame to stop. Or maybe it just seems that way because I’ve already spent all that money on art school.

Article featuring my quotes will be running on Wed, February 2nd, 2011 edition of the Daily Kent Stater. Found on Kent State University Campus in Kent, OH.
